Who We Are
Dr Stavros Paschalakis, Founder and Director
Stavros holds a BEng in Computer Systems Engineering and a PhD in Electronic Engineering. Before starting Visual Atoms, he was R&D Manager and Multimedia Technologies Team Leader with Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe. He is an inventor of about 20 patent families and author of about two dozen technical papers and book chapters. Stavros has been actively involved in MPEG standardisation, serving as chair and editor of activities related to multimedia representation. His technical expertise includes image and video processing, multimedia systems, machine learning, computer vision, and efficient software/hardware implementation of computer vision algorithms.
Dr Miroslaw Bober, Founder and Director
Miroslaw holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering, an MSc in Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence and a PhD in Electronic Engineering. Before starting Visual Atoms, he was the General Manager of Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe. He is an inventor of about 40 patent families and author of about 50 publications, including three books and book chapters. Miroslaw is very active in MPEG standardisation, as chair and editor of multimedia-related activities. His technical interests include various aspects of image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition. In addition to being one of the founders of Visual Atoms, Miroslaw is also a Professor of Video Processing with the University of Surrey.
